Baltimore Ravens star Ray Rice gets married to Janay Palmer one day after indictment
MStars has learned that Baltimore Ravens star Ray Rice married his fiancée Janay Palmer just one day after he was indicted for assaulting her in February at an Atlantic City casino.
We previously reported that the running back allegedly assaulted the mother of his daughter on February 15 and surveillance video proved some type of altercation had occurred.
The NFL star was seen dragging an nearly unconscious Palmer as they were exiting an casino elevator. The 27-year-old was charged with third degree aggravated assault last Thursday, March 27.
One source reveals that the couple got married last Friday, March 28 and planned the rushed wedding weeks ago to save Rice and help Palmer, 26 be cleared to testify against her new husband.
This is called spousal privilege and in this case it will probably not work. In the state of New Jersey, where the altercation occurred spousal privilege does not apply if the alleged happened involving your spouse.
The Baltimore Ravens star could face three to five years in prison if he's found guilty on the one charge.
Michael Diamondstein, Rice's attorney, made a statement on last Thursday revealing that Rice and his new wife, Palmer want this put behind them and do not wish to move forward with the case.
"We deny Ray Rice committed aggravated assault. Neither Ray nor (his fiancée) Janay Palmer wish to prosecute the matter. Ray and Janay are together. They're happy, and they're in counseling," Diamondstein said. "We believe that as a matter of law that Ray Rice did not commit aggravated assault. We ask only that the public reserve judgment until all the facts come to light."
