April Fools' prank gone too far: Angela Timmons arrested after fake text about Virginia College shooting
One April Fools' joke has gone too far. MStars has learned that Spartanburg County deputies will be charging a 54-year-old woman that sent a text message about a shooting at a local college as an April Fools' joke.
According to WHNS, Lt. Tony Ivey with the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office said they received a call from the daughter of Angela Timmons after she received a disturbing text message about a possible shooting on a college campus, Virginia College on Tuesday morning, April 1.
According to Ivey, the message sent revealed that the girls mother was hiding in one of the campus bathrooms and heard gunshots.
This site reveals that the daughter called 911 and deputies rushed to the college. Sheriff Chuck Wright said he was prepared to see a horrible scene as he drove to the college.
"I'm thinking Columbine High School, Sandy Hook, Virginia Tech," he said.
As soon as police arrived at the scene, the daughter had apparently received another text message from her mother revealing that it was just an April Fools' joke'.
Although Wright and others were thankful it was just a prank, he also said no one thought this was a smart decision to claim as a joke.
"Text someone and tell them their tire's flat, that's funny," Wright said. "We're talking about death. It's real. The people of Sandy Hook, when they see this online they're not going to think it's very funny. I don't think it's very funny."
Wright said his deputies arrived to the scene quickly and was prepared for anything, and to be used as a joke did not settle well with the staff that was prepared to lose their life if they had to, and rescue others in danger.
The Sheriff also revealed that the joke was not fair to the college, saying the employee made a bad decision to pull off that kind of joke, not being an role model to the institution.
54-year-old Angela Timmons was identified through Facebook and is Spartanburg native.
The mother that pulled off the April Fools' prank has been arrested and will be charged with disturbing schools.
