In American sports such as the MLB, fans get the chance to track talented youngsters and watch them develop in the minor leagues. In a some what similarly, yet much harder environment, soccer players, especially in England, often have to prove themselves before getting their chance to shine in the English Premier League. That is exactly what 21-year-old Britt Assombalonga is doing for Darren Ferguson's (the son of Sir Alex Ferguson) Peterborough United. The club are currently two leagues below the EPL, but it looks like Britt could be playing there as early as next season.

Assombalonga's club are known for buying youngsters, developing them, succeeding with them and then giving them the platform to play Premier League football with a different team. They have achieved this with many players before Britt, most recently Dwight Gayle, who signed for near $1 million and was sold for a fee near $10 million to Premier League new boys Crystal Palace.

Whilst the average Premier League fan may of known little about Gayle, they've seen enough this season to realize he's a talented young player, who can make a long lasting impact in that league. It seems Britt, Gayle's replacement at Peterborough, is trying to make a similar story for himself. The young striker was a top prospect at Watford, but he was sold for a little under $3 million, in a deal that was Peterborough's record fee when buying a player.

Watford believed in Britt, and they themselves were aiming for a Premier League spot, so it seems evident they knew he had Premier League ability. However, Britt was loaned to Southend United, in which he made a name for himself, and he realized he needed regular football. Watford do however have a clause, meaning they can have the first option on meeting an agreed fee, to discuss bringing Britt back eventually.

The striker has scored 29 goals in all competitions this season and he's the awe of fans across England. Many are hoping their higher league team make a move for the goalscorer.

It seems like it was a match made in heaven for both the club and player. Britt needed a platform to prove himself on, and Peterborough needed a reliable striker. Despite his small amount of success, Britt has remained grounded, with him confirming his family are behind this. They travel to almost every game to support him, and his father, Fedor Assombalonga, is no stranger to success, being a former Zaire international soccer player.

One of Britt's biggest positives is his will to improve. One year ago he lost the Johnstone's Paint Trophy with his then loan club Southend United, however just last week he helped his new club Peterborough United go one better and lift the trophy. Britt is the type of player that will work hard and always look a threat, as proven in Peterborough United's recent 2-0 victory over Colchester. He was ineffective for large parts, but created a goal from nowhere, leading his team to yet another victory.

Whilst the striker faded through fatigue last season, and has shown signs of doing so this season, a summer of rest will ensure Britt is back at his very best next season, but the question is, will this improving striker be in League One, the Championship, or the Premier League?
