Paulina Gretzky Causes Major Uproar With Her 'Golf Digest' Cover! PHOTOS
Model Paulina Gretzky, the daughter of Wayne Gretzky and fiancée of PGA tour pro Dustin Johnson, seems to be an obvious choice to be on the cover of Golf Digest. Why should that be a major problem? Because the model isn't a pro golfer, more likely a beginner, managed to land the front page of a magazine that devotes itself to athletic fitness and the professional world of golfing.
According to USA Today, the cover doesn't sit well with the Ladies Professional Golf Association. Angela Stanford, a veteran golfer since the '90s, states, "The question is who are they trying to sell to? If the answer is men 25 years old through 45 years old, then I guess that's what they have to do. You know the old saying, sex sells. And nobody can argue with that. It's just the way it is. But the LPGA has some attractive women and very fit women, so why not use them? I'm just baffled by it."
On the Golf Digest website, editor-in-chief Jerry Tarde defends the cover, "Sports figures, celebrities, and models have appeared on Golf Digest covers since the magazine's beginning. Paulina ranks at the high end of the golf celebrity scene today, and she has a compelling story to tell. She also might get some new people interested in the game."
Who exactly is Golf Digest trying to sell their magazine to? Novices who may not know much about the world of golf, the male demographic, or female pro golfers?
In the May issue of Golf Digest, Paulina Gretzky shows you how to improve your golf swing in six exercises and discuss her connections with the sports world. The issue hits newsstands on April 15th.
