BOOM! Studios Takes You On A Creepy And Scary Trip To 'The Woods'
Boom! Studios presents a new horror series that promises to make you afraid to ever go camping again. Writer James Tynion IV (Batman Eternal) and artist Michael Dialynas (Amala's Blade) take readers on a terrifying trip into The Woods, where the twisted trees are watching you and the hooting owls are not what they truly seem.
In an interview with Comic Book Resources, Tynion discusses the horror/sci-fi premise, "On a larger level, 'The Woods' is a story about what happens when a Midwestern high school is transported into the middle of a terrifying alien forest, with no real hints about what brought them there or why. But on a more human level, 'The Woods' is a story about being a teenager, so certain of what the future might hold and so sure that they're prepared for it, but once they step out in the world, they'll learn that the tools they've developed to cope with reality are vastly underdeveloped. They're lost and terrified, and in the case of this story, that's both literally true and figuratively true."
BOOM! Studios editor-in-chief Matt Gagnon explains the appeal of the horror setting, "James' pitch for The Woods knocked me out of my shoes. We've been passionate about bringing this story to comics from the jump and I'm proud to say that James' story has surpassed even our lofty expectations. James and Michael have combined teen angst with high strangeness to create a slow-burning horror story that feels like what I love about Stephen King's work. It's completely gripping, and is equal parts mysterious, thought-provoking, and suspenseful."
Plot Synopsis:
On October 16, 2013, 437 students, 52 teachers, and 24 additional staff from Bay Point Preparatory High School in suburban Milwaukee, WI vanished without a trace. Countless light years away, far outside the bounds of the charted universe, 513 people find themselves in the middle of an ancient, primordial wilderness. Where are they? Why are they there? The answers will prove stranger than anyone could possibly imagine.
Get ready for the chilling new series, The Woods, on May 7th. Step into the forest if you dare, but you may come out in pieces.
