Enjoy This Mashup Between ‘Family Circus’ And ‘True Detective’ In ‘Time Is A Flat Circus’
Who would have thought you could combine a warm-hearted comic strip with a dark crime drama? Someone of pure evil genius put together Family Circus and True Detective into one hilarious Tumblr.
In the 1960s, Bil Keane created The Family Circle, a comic strip that revolved around a cartoonist, his loving wife, and adorable children. Billy, the oldest of five children, draws cartoons in order to get an understanding of the adult world. Later renamed The Family Circus, the strip continues in-family, as Jeff Keane currently writes, inks, and colors each panel.
True Detective follows two detectives as they attempt to stop a serial killer before he strikes again. In the HBO series, Rustin "Rust" Cohle (played by Matthew McConaughey) spouts bleak, existential words of wisdom during the murder investigation. Sometimes you wonder if Rust, the bad cop, is worse than the serial killer.
From the official Tumblr, Time is a Flat Circus juxtaposes Billy's random thoughts with Cohle's best nihilistic quotes. Even the headline features a quote from Cohle's partner, Martin "Marty" Hart. While describing his partner, Hart says, "Past a certain age, a man without a family, can be a bad thing."
I am anxiously waiting for someone to use my favorite line, ""The world needs bad men. We keep the other bad men from the door," in the Tumblr.
Who would have thought the innocent Billy, from Family Circus, had such a dark heart? Time is a Flat Circus manages to display the best elements of the comic strip and the police procedural.
