Did LA Angels' Mike Trout want a thirteen-year contract extension?

The LA Angels and Mike Trout recently underwent a long, extensive period of contract negotiations, and they eventually came to an agreement, but what took them so long? It's recently surfaced that Trout wanted a thirteen-year contract extension. That would of been unthinkable for such a young player, especially given that MLB salaries are guaranteed. If Trout got a figure near $300 million dollars, then he would be owed every single penny, under most circumstances.

Mike Trout is a very important player for the Angels, and they did their best to lock him down, but thirteen years was obviously too large, not matter how talented the player. Now both Trout and the Angels have a sense of power. If Trout carries on his impressive form then he can test free agency within a few years, and it's likely he'd get an 8-10-year contract, and the Angels have locked him down, but have room to breathe if he doesn't carry on his blistering form.

At the time of writing Mike Trout has hit 5 home runs and 13 RBI's. Quite an impressive start, but surely he'd of been feeling the pressure had he received the thirteen-year contract he wanted? Trout has been one of the best sluggers in recent seasons, and his performances are pivotal in the Angels finding form, and giving the LA Dodgers some competition for the best team in Los Angeles.

Will the Angels get to the playoffs this year, and just how important is Mike Trout to their team?
