It's no surprise that when Katy Perry's movie "Katy Perry: Part of Me" hit theaters on July 5 it was going to excite her fans -- who wouldn't be enamored with a colorful on-stage spectacular mixed with behind the scenes hilarity and personal anecdotes to give the movie some backbone?

1. She experienced her lowest point when she lived in Los Angeles and asked her 15-year-old brother for money.

2. The "Part of Me" singer made a pact with her best friends, actress Shannon Woodward and DJ "it-girl" Mia Moretti, in which they promised each other, "One day, we're all going to be famous" when they were young and poverty stricken in Los Angeles. It worked out pretty well for the girls, who are at least all semi-famous now.

3. When Perry was signed to Columbia Records, the label wanted to turn her into "the next Avril Levine," but the K. Perry that we know and love refused to let anyone turn her into something that she wasn't.

4. It's not news that Perry grew up with strict Pentecostal Christian parents, but she wasn't even allowed to watch "The Smurfs" or read "Harry Potter."

5. She grew up listening strictly to Christian music, but when she heard her first non-Christian album, Alanis Morissette's "Jagged Little Pill," she was inspired by "You Oughta Know."
