Known for its cutting edge comic books, Crossed and Caliban, Avatar Press is about to see one of its most popular horror titles leap onto the television screen. Legendary Television and Digital has optioned The Extinction Parade, from Max Brooks, author of the bestselling World War Z, to be developed as a TV series.

Written by Max Brooks and drawn by Raulo Caceres, The Extinction Parade follows two aristocratic vampire sisters as they witness the living dead rising from the grave in hordes. Because of their slow and self-centered way of life, the sisters do not even realize what is actually happening right in front of them. The vampire race fail to realize the extinction of man is close upon them. While the zombies continue to wipe out the human race, this is how an entire species is about to die.

William Christensen, publisher of Avatar Press, explains the appeal of Brooks' writing and the success of his comic, "Brooks is a visionary with an incredible ability to tell stories that deliver a fresh approach to the horrors that haunt our nightmares. His work on Extinction Parade has been a stunningly rich tapestry of cultures in decline and a biting indictment of the perils of privilege. It will make the perfect television series to appeal to fans who have until now settled for thinly veiled soap operas parading as horror."

Brooks, who will write the pilot episode, states, "I only brought the idea to one company, Legendary, because they do the kind of quality work of which any writer would be proud." Legendary is the studio behind the recent blockbusters, Pacific Rim and 300: Rise of an Empire. Their latest film project, Godzilla, will hit theaters this May.

Brooks further adds, "While the comic series from Avatar continues, I am thrilled to be working with Legendary to develop Extinction Parade into an innovative new series for television."

Before the comic hits TV screens, readers should pick up Max Brook's The Extinction Parade Vol.1 this July 1st.  Moviegoers should be in theaters when Godzilla stomps his way there on May 6th.
