Marvel Comics is about to do the unthinkable and kill off one of its most popular character. With his healing factor, the adamanitum-clawed mutant thought he was unstoppable as he launched himself into battle, but all of that is about to change in writer Charles Soule and artist Steve McNiven's Death of Wolverine.

Entertainment Weekly got the scoop on the upcoming four-part miniseries, Death of Wolverine. In the current story arc, 3 Months to Die, Wolverine was robbed of his healing factor, making him an easy target for his hated enemies. The Marvel superhero is destined to meet his fatal demise in the concluding chapter of Death of Wolverine #4. Each issue will be distributed in a weekly installment, culminating in the finale on September 24th.

Michael Marts, executive editor at Marvel, explains why the need to kill off such a major character, "For a long time, no matter who Wolverine was battling, he's been the eternal victor. He almost always comes out on top. Now he finally comes up against an adversary that he cannot win against, he cannot fight. What does that mean for this character who's been around for hundred years?"

Soule discusses what Wolverine will face in the upcoming story arc, "He's reflecting on his own life as he's reflecting on his own death. We wanted to have the reader do that at the same time. In each issue, we're focusing on a different aspect, or a different quintessential Wolverine."

Get ready for the death of a fan-favorite in Death of Wolverine, starting with the first issue on September 3. How will the X-Men stand together as a team with Wolverine no longer around?
