Sherlock fans might already know that creators Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat are hoping to make a third season of the tantalizing show, but it has yet to be officially confirmed by the series' busy stars. Both Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman are two of the biggest international stars on the big and small screen, so scheduling is definitely an issue. But a new interview with Freeman hinted at a possible one-off special to take the place of the fourth season.

"Mark Gatiss may beat me up, but there is an idea for this one-off special that's such a good idea, and as I was listening to it, I thought, 'We've just got to do this,'" he told Cultbox. "And I don't know when we are going to be able to do it, unfortunately. It's a fantastic, really mouth-watering idea. But I really don't know when we are going to get to do it."

How do you feel about a one-off special instead of a fourth season of the 3-episodes-per-season series? Let us know how you feel in the comments section below!

Freeman's recent one-off hints come after a recent interview with The Guardian in which he explained he didn't know when the new episodes would film.

"I don't know. Really. I wish I did," he said. "I thought the plan was to do it in the autumn but apparently that's fallen away. We're all busy. But I'm ready. I'm there. It depends if you want to make time for it. I hope we do. I love it."
