‘Kevin Keller’ Comic Comes To An End But Archie Comics Still has Plans For Riverdale’s Gay Resident!
Back in 2010, Archie Comics broke new ground by introducing their first openly gay character, Kevin Keller. After making his debut in Veronica #202, Keller instantly became popular amongst readers, eventually landing his own ongoing comic series. Though Kevin Keller will hit its last issue, Archie Comics still has something big planned for Riverdale's gay resident.
NewNowNext got the scoop from Kevin Keller creator Dan Parent that the series is coming to an end with issue #15. Parent underlines that Archie Comics has not given up on the popular character and still has plans for Keller in Riverdale's future.
Parent discusses how Archie readers have responded to Keller, "People were surprised at first that we were introducing a gay character, but once they got to meet Kevin, they liked him and welcomed him with open arms to the Archie-verse. Gay fans tell me how much Kevin means to them, and how their lives would have been different had Kevin existed when they were growing up. And straight fans like him because he's another cool kid in Riverdale!"
Parent explains why the final issue won't be the last time we hear of Kevin, "It's about direction for the character. I've had some ideas for Kevin that I have discussed with the powers that be at Archie, and these ideas would work better as a re-launch rather than as a continuation of the current book."
Keller still has a big part to play in the zombie apocalypse in Afterlife With Archie. An announcement will be made later in the year, which Parent promises something truly better than the current Kevin Keller series.
This July 15, don not miss out on the last issue of Kevin Keller #15. Readers will just have to wait for upcoming news from creator Dan Parent about what's next for Keller.
