Supernatural Season 9 Spoilers: Finale puts Winchesters in brand new situation

Supernatural is heading toward its Season 9 finale, and fans have seen the Winchester brothers seemingly go through it all in the past nine years. They've battled angels, demons, monsters and even stopped Lucifer himself from roasting the planet. So what new dangers could possibly present themselves in the finale?

The "Spoiler Chat" column at E! Online reports that Sam and Dean will be in a brand new set of circumstances as Season 9 draws to a close:

"Give us some scoop on Supernatural, would ya?
Prepare for a Supernatural first and a major cliffhanger in the finale. 'We leave our guys in a situation they've never faced before, which after nine seasons, it kind of narrows it down a little bit,' supervising producer Andrew Dabb teases. 'I think once they see the last frame of the last episode, I think people are going to be incredibly excited for Season 10.'"

In past season finales, Dean and/or Sam have gone to Hell, freed Lucifer, come back from the dead, disappeared to Purgatory and watched as thousands of angels plummeted to Earth. So while Dabb says the choices are narrowed, we're still at a loss as to what else they can throw at us.

In other finale news, E! Online posted the following blurb as part of its series on upcoming television finales, and showrunner Jeremy Carver offered a small peak at the final hour of Season 9:

"'All bets are off when Sam, Dean and Castiel take the fight to Metatron,' boss Jeremy Carver warns. 'Uneasy alliances and brutal choices await...all culminating in shocking consequences.' Gulp."
