Star Trek & Reading Rainbow’s Levar Burton Promotes Free Comic Book Day! [WATCH VIDEO]

When actor Levar Burton wasn't traveling through time and space as Geordi La Forge on Star Trek Generation, he was also promoting literacy among young readers as the host of the PBS show, Reading Rainbow. Burton is back to promote reading on a special event, Free Comic Book Day.

Burton explains his love for reading comics, "My love of the written word originated with comic books. That's right! You see, I'm an army brat. My father was in the military and when we were stationed in Germany, comic books was a treasured item we first read and then traded with one another. And they also connected us to the popular culture back home."

If you notice in the video, Burton is holding in his hands, Myspace Dark Horse Comics Presents: Vol. 6. Dark Horse put together an anthology of memorable short stories from a list of heavy-hitters such as, Christopher Mitten (Criminal Macabre), Stan Sakai (Usagi Yojimbo), and Art Baltazar (Itty Bitty Hellboy). As reported here, Dark Horse is giving away three all-ages titles for the price of nothing.

Burton mentions why readers, young and old, should be heading out to their local comic shop, "It's an opportunity for you to go into your comic book store and pick out one of 60 comic books for free. For fans out there, it's a great way to try something new. For you parents, what better way to get your kids excited about reading than with a comic book."
