'Star Wars 7' Casting News, Rumors: J.J. Abrams' 'Full List' not complete, Daisy Ridley won't be the only new female in 'Episode VII'
This week we learned the main cast members of J.J. Abrams' highly anticipated film Star Wars: Episode VII and one of the actors that stood out the most was the one female name, Daisy Ridley. First of all, she's a relative unknown with a humble IMDB page, but also she was the only female to be cast. According to new reports, though, the main cast isn't complete and another female is expected to join soon!
Check out the new casting announcements HERE!
Star Wars is notorious for casting a lone female lead, surrounded by a bunch of men (Carrie Fisher and Natalie Portman know what we're talking about), so we weren't too taken aback. But now rumors are claiming another role has yet to be cast.
Looking back at the original casting call descriptions from last year, we see that the there were two female roles available in the film:
"Late-teen female, independent, good sense of humor, fit" and "A second young female, also late teens, tough, smart and fit."
Also, check out the photo of the new cast released with the casting announcement this week:
As you can see, Ridley is sitting between Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher. This makes it pretty apparent that she will be portraying Han Solo and Princess Leia's daughter.
One possible role is that of Obi-Wan Kenobi's granddaughter, expected to be some sort of minority. Actresses that were recently linked to meetings and projects included Maisie Richardson-Sellers and Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong'o. The latter recently signed on for Jon Favreau's The Jungle Book, so she's out of the running. What do you think will happen with this other female role?
