Racist Donald Sterling Scandal: NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar slams Clippers owner, girlfriend V. Stiviano, NAACP and more!
We're more than positive you've heard of the recent Donald Sterling racism scandal that climaxed this week with the LA Clippers owner getting banned from the NBA. Everyone from NBA stars to Civil Rights activists have been weighing in on the controversy, but now NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is creating headlines for bashing both sides of the scandal!
Though this current situation is terrible and inexcusable, it isn't the first time Sterling has exhibited racist tendencies. Abdul-Jabbar's recent statements shames all involved in the scandal about how this could've been avoided years ago in a Time Magazine op-ed piece.
"Yes, I'm angry, too," Abdul-Jabbar states, "but not just about the sins of Donald Sterling. I've got a list."
First, Kareem addresses Sterling's girlfriend, V. Stiviano, who happens to be a minority.
"Man, what a winding road she led him down to get all of that out," he said. "She was like a sexy nanny playing 'pin the fried chicken on the Sambo.' She blindfolded him and spun him around until he was just blathering all sorts of incoherent racist sound bites that had the news media peeing themselves with glee."
Abdul-Jabbar goes on to call out the media, the NBA and the NAACP, which was about to award sterling with an award on May 15.
"So, if we're all going to be outraged," the former NBA star starts his conclusion, "let's be outraged that we weren't more outraged when his racism was first evident. Let's be outraged that private conversations between people in an intimate relationship are recorded and publicly played. Let's be outraged that whoever did the betraying will probably get a book deal, a sitcom, trade recipes with Hoda and Kathie Lee, and soon appear on 'Celebrity Apprentice' and 'Dancing with the Stars.'"
