Fox has just ordered 13 initial episodes for the police procedural/crime drama, Gotham. So what does a Batman TV show without the Caped Crusader look like? And the most important question is, will it even work with audiences?

Let's breakdown the trailer to Gotham and see what the TV series has to offer:

5) What we know so far is that Ben McKenzie and Donal Logue play detectives Jim Gordon and Harvey Bullock. It seems the two partners don't get along and hardly trust each other. Gordon is trying to keep his sanity while Bullock has lost his way in the war on crime.

4) One of Batman's villain's is the mob boss, Penguin (played by Robin Lord Taylor). His look is far different from the comics and Danny DeVito's portrayal in Tim Burton's Batman Returns. In the trailer, Penguin tells McKenzie's Gordon, "There is a war coming. A terrible war..." What did Gordon do to this guy to make him so bruised, beaten, and bleeding?

3) Actress Jada Pinkett Smith stars in the series as Fish Mooney. This is a non-comic book character created just for the TV show. She wants to take control of the city as the war between the freaks, mobsters, and police escalates.

2) This is the shot that has been ingrained to readers by many Batman artists. As a child, Bruce witnessed the murder of his parents by a mugger. It will take a single crime that will stir the city and shake things up as Penguin promises, "There will be chaos...rivers of blood on the streets. I know it."

1) Just like CW's Arrow, we will see the origin stories of the villains. One of those villains is Edward E. Nigma, known as the Riddler. How will Gordon and Bullock be able to solve the criminal mastermind's tricky riddles, which have even defeated Batman a few times?
