Houston Texans take DE Jadeveon Clowney with No. 1 pick in 2014 NFL Draft
After months and months of deliberation and utter speculation, the No. 1 pick in the 2014 NFL Draft has been made. The Houston Texans had many options, but opted for the elite talent that is DE Jadeveon Clowney. Many were wondering if they would go for Blake Bortles, Johnny Manziel or Clowney, but obviously his huge defensive presence was far too much to pass up.
Clowney will be aiming to make life tougher for Indianapolis Colts' Andrew Luck when their pair face one another in their regular season games. The Colts have dominated their division for a long while, and with him being known for getting sacked, Clowney will be the last player he wanted to see arrive on a rival side.
After their struggling season the Texans knew they 'd be rewarded with an elite talent from what many have called 'the best ever draft class'. The Texans did try to trade down in the first round, but it's believed they wanted three first-round picks in order to do business. No team were prepared to meet this, so the Texans went with the safest, most productive pick possible. The Texans know they will not easily get back to the playoffs next season, so this was just about making an improvement and not looking to make a flashy pick.
How good will Clowney be, and can he make an instant impact for the Houston Texans? Will the Texans regret not drafting local boy Johnny Manziel, or will the huge defensive upgrade they've added make them more than forget the endless of other possibilities?
