Rumors have been flying all week about who will be the judges on season 12 of "American Idol." The most recent names to be thrown into the mix are Charlie Sheen and Jerry Lewis, according to TMZ.com.

Sources haven't been able to confirm whether the Idol producer, Nigel Lythgoe, was just 'pulling reporters' legs when he made the statment,' but agree that it would be pretty entertaining to see the duo appear as judges.

However, American Idol producers have been seriously considering many popular artists such as Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, Fergie, Katy Perry, Will.I.Am and Adam Lambert to join the cast for the next series, according to E!Online.

Although nothing has been set in stone, according to the show's website, everyone is waiting to see who their co-workers will be before they make any final agreements.

While Idol's producers all agree that they would like Jennifer Lopez back on the show, Lopez has made it clear that she doesn't have any plans on returning to the hit show. Despite showing little to no interest in returning to the show, producers are optimistic that they still have a chance at re-signing the superstar. As for old judges such as Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler, they could possibly be on the chopping block as well. According to reports, although producers like Randy and Tyler, they are looking for younger talent and fresh faces. The changes are being made due to Idol's competition with X Factor, which recently cast Britney Spears and Demi Lovato.

"Randy is great, but he's part of the old Idol," the source said. "They want to keep the soul of the show but have a new look, and for that reason he may well not be part of the new line up."

It could potentially be a whole new judging panel this fall on American Idol.

"They have been talking about Adam for over a month," E! News reported. "He personifies the show, and will be a popular choice right from the start. He knows what it's like to be on the receiving end of the judges' comments, he has a human touch, and they know they can't go wrong if they bring him on. He would be able to bring a unique perspective to the show. People love him."

Auditions for season 12 of the show are currently taking place, but with no judges. The clock is ticking for producers to find this season's judges.
