Misha Collins previews Castiel's role in Supernatural Season 9 finale, Season 10
Misha Collins has portrayed the angel Castiel on Supernatural for five seasons and has already been confirmed to return for Season 10. Currently, the character is embroiled in a war with fellow angel Metatron and is subject to a ticking clock, as the grace he stole earlier in the season is burning out inside of him.
Collins spoke to IGN recently and previewed Castiel's role in the Season 9 finale, as well as Season 10.
"This time it's personal, I think we can say," Collins said of Cas' war with Metatron. "It's been a great storyline and there's more of it to play out in Season 10. But the cliffhanger, I can tell you, going from Season 9 into Season 10 is fantastic. It's great."
Collins drops an interesting nugget of information there. Based on his comment, it's possible that the Metatron story does not wrap up neatly in the Season 9 finale.
Next, IGN asked Collins how the show reached the milestone of Season 10, a mark not many shows reach.
"I don't know what the secret to our success is. I think it's largely our fans. We have an incredibly devoted, loyal group of fans who love the show, and I'm sure that we're where we are because of them," Collins said. "And I think that's also a show that allows in the writing so much freedom that it doesn't get boring. We're always doing something different, and that keeps people interested in the show. It hasn't gotten tedious. And I think that the characters have evolved. Not only the characters, but the actors themselves have evolved."
Finally, Collins said the writers would be going back into the room next week to start hashing out Season 10, so he does not know yet what next year will bring.
