Atletico Madrid snatch La Liga title from Barcelona's grasp
It's been a dramatic season for Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid as they've all fought it out over the La Liga title, so why would the final week be any different? It seems like the European leagues have all been better than usual this season, with both the Premier League and English Premier League going right down to the wire.
Barcelona needed to beat Atletico Madrid to be crowned champions of Spain, whilst Madrid required a draw or a victory. Madrid feared the worst when Barcelona took the lead and they suffered some morale damaging injuries. As they've done all season, they persevered and soon after they got their reward, an equalising goal.
This goal proved decisive, with Atletico holding on to be crowned La Liga champions. Both teams attacked at a rapid, furious pace, but withstood the pressure. There was a nervy ending with one goal completely changing the entire seasons work. The game proved to be like a cup final. Next up for Atletico will be a UEFA Champions League final against their city rivals, Real Madrid, which will take place next Saturday.
Who could of predicted this outcome, and how will Madrid fair if Diego Costa leaves for the English Premier League? Atletico surprised all with their breathtaking season, but in a week's time the soccer world may be talking about one of the most unexpected doubles of all time.
Who will win next week's Madrid UEFA Champions League final, and can Atletico dominate for years to come, or is this season a one off?
