Manchester United sign goalkeeping prospect Vanja Milinkovic
Manchester United have one of the best goalkeepers in the world in David De Gea, and he just won their 'Player of the Year' award, but there's no time to rest when you want to have the world's best players. United have followed through with this mentality, announcing they have reached an agreement with FK Vojvodina to sign Serbian Under-17 international goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic. Can the youngster compete with David De Gea?
Part of the deal will ensure that Vanja remains with his old club for one more season, which is likely to enhance his ability, while knowing he will eventually come to Manchester United to compete with De Gea. United's former captain Nemanja Vidic has just left the club, and he was also from Serbia, so many will be hoping he can create a legacy of similar stature, too.
Milinkovic kept three clean sheets for the Serbia Under-17 team in 6 games during the Under-17 Championship. This form had clubs all around the world firmly watching the talented teen, but can he make the transition to the English Premier League? At least he's got plenty of years to progress and develop his game.
It seems that United are already looking to add firm competition to their first-team keeper De Gea, which can never be a bad thing, can it? United have a busy summer of rebuilding ahead, with Arjen Robben, Luke Shaw, Adam Lallana and Toni Kroos all being linked to the club, so it did shock many that their first deal was to strengthen their strongest position, but it seems like it will be the first of many deals for the club this summer.
