Ahead of 2014 World Cup Manchester United and England star Wayne Rooney slams English media
It seems any time there's a major tournament there's something causing the division of England as a nation. With weeks to go before the start of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, it's happened again. This time Wayne Rooney and the English media are at war. Rooney has gone to Portugal now the Premier League season has finished, hoping to spend time with his family and boost his fitness ahead of the tournament, but it seems he hasn't travelled alone, much to his distaste.
With the biggest soccer tournament coming up it appears the media, especially the English one, are frightened of missing anything vital in its run up, and they've followed Wayne to Portugal. He has tweeted his anger, saying "Disgusting that English press have flew out to Portugal to follow me while I'm with my children." It seems like Wayne's not prepared to let this end peacefully.
The 28-year-old is Manchester United's best player and certainly England's and after a struggling, injury-hit season he and his wife Colleen, his two sons and two fitness experts have travelled to Portugal to help him recover from his groin strain. He has not played in a few weeks and his fitness is seen as fundamental to England's success.
Is Wayne right in getting angry, or is this just part of his career package? Can Rooney lead England to World Cup glory, or will they fall short as they usually do?
It's going to be an interesting build up to the 2014 World Cup. That's for sure.
