Manchester United finally confirm Netherlands boss Louis Van Gaal as manager
Since David Moyes was fired it's looked obvious that Louis Van Gaal would get the top job at Old Trafford, but Manchester United moved slow in getting the deal done. Why? They had little choice with Van Gaal the current Netherlands boss he's been busy preparing for the 2014 World Cup which stars in 3 weeks. Today, however, the club and Van Gaal announced the deal, confirming a three-year contract has been signed.
Van Gaal, 62, has managed Ajax, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and others, but United will represent the biggest challenge of his career. The confident boss appears ready for the challenge, saying "I have managed in games at Old Trafford before and know what an incredible arena Old Trafford is and how passionate and knowledgeable the fans are". He continued "This club has big ambitions. I too have big ambitions. Together I'm sure we will make history."
Van Gaal had been hinting that he wanted to work in the English Premier League, but it seems United was always his preferred destination. He explained "To work as a manager for Manchester United, the biggest club in the world, makes me very proud. I have managed in games at Old Trafford before and know what an incredible arena Old Trafford is and how passionate and knowledgeable the fans are."
Will Louis Van Gaal have a successful World Cup, and how much impact can he make in the transfer market and then his debut season in the Premier League? Only time will tell, but United are excited at their fresh start.
