DC Comics Teases The Caped Crusader Is ‘Ready For War’ In Scott Snyder & Greg Capullo’s ‘Batman #31!’ [Twitter Photo]
The world's greatest detective watches his city burn to the ground as his greatest nemesis continues to takes his games to the extreme. The Riddler raises the stakes to an all-time high in writer Scott Snyder and artist Greg Capullo's Batman #31 (DC Comics).
A tribute to Frank Miller's Batman: Year One, Zero Year is an ambitious 12 part miniseries by Snyder and Capullo as they flashback to the caped crusader's early beginnings. In the origin story arc so far, Bruce Wayne faced the violent criminal known as The Joker, who actually started out as the ring leader of the Red Hood gang. But the clown prince of crime is nothing compared to the complex riddles set up by Edward E. Nygma.
LA Complex got the scoop on the Dark Knight's first confrontation with the criminal mastermind, The Riddler. In the previous issue, Nygma defeated the masked vigilante and took Gotham City hostage, setting off dozens of explosions all at once. Readers saw the beaten and bruised Batman wearing street clothes and a cowl in the last panel of issue #30.
Snyder explains why Wayne is not wearing his traditional Batsuit is his rematch with Nygma. "This is Bruce ready for war. He doesn't even need a costume. He is Batman, with or without his gadgets, with or without his money, with or without his costume - he is Batman at core."

In the DC Universe, The Riddler doesn't fight Batman with his fists, but with his intelligence. The hero and villain attempt to outsmart each other, while doing battle as intellectuals. In Zero Year, the green-costumed nemesis has been one step ahead, bringing down Gotham to a savage city.
Snyder discusses why the Riddler may be too smart for his own good, "He's so deadly smart in so many ways and then on the other hand, he's incredibly nearsighted. He's also emotionally extremely immature [laughs] and stunted. He's a terrifying figure in that regard."
The Dark Knight is ready to go to war against the Riddler in Batman #31. Now in its tenth installment, Zero Year is just two issues away from reaching its exciting conclusion.
