What started out as a casting rumor has officially become a true report in the end. Boardwalk Empire actor Charlie Cox will indeed star as the titular superhero in Marvel's Daredevil on Netflix.

Variety has confirmed Cox will definitely play the blind lawyer Matt Murdock, also known as Matt Murdock. The English actor will don the red horned mask, just like Ben Affleck did in the live-action superhero film. Daredevil will start off four Marvel solo series and then come together for the Defender series. So not only will Cox play the lead role in his own series, he will also guest-star in the other Netflix shows and possibly become the leader of the heroes-for-hire team.

As reported here, Cloverfield screenwriter Drew Goddard has been replaced as showrunner by Steven DeKnight (Spartacus). Goddard has already written two episodes and will still executive produce, while working on the Sinister Six spinoff. DeKnight's first act as showrunner is casting Cox as the man without fear.

This all started as a rumor when Latino-Review  first claimed the English actor was being considered for the lead role. In his original report, Umberto Gonzalez stated, "Now this is unconfirmed at the moment, hence the rumor status, but I trust the sources enough to publish."

Comic Book Resources followed suit afterwards, wanting to be the first gossip site to claim confirmation. Marvel declined to comment to CBR on whether the Stardust actor was officially being considered.

With Steven DeKnight taking over as showrunner, actor Charlie Cox will play the lead role in Marvel's Daredevil. Readers, what do you think of Cox as the death-defying man without fear?
