ABC's Revenge capped off its third season with, as expected, numerous twists and turns and a couple of deaths to boot. The series earned Entertainment Weekly's Season Finale Awards for Best Non-Romantic Cliffhanger and Most Disturbing Image.

That disturbing image was Victoria Grayson's present for Emily Thorne: the dead body of her love, Aiden, propped up on the couch with his mouth wide open. Showrunner Sunil Nayar spoke to EW about that pivotal moment.

"To the credit of Barry [Sloane], who played the part, and to Ken Fink, who directed [the finale], and just the makeup department, it was so much more wonderfully creepy than I even thought it was gonna be," he said. "Even on the day we shot it, Barry just sitting there and the mouth kinda vaguely open, and how he managed to just stay committed to the moment while being dead was really remarkable. I love the image, and I thought Emily [VanCamp's] performance just seeing it was so tremendous. Her screams, and Victoria turning - it all turned out almost more wonderful and terrifying than we thought it could have been."

The Revenge writers got back to work on Tuesday to begin penning Season 4. The return of David Clarke, Victoria's new home in the insane asylum and more are all on the table for the show, which will have a much different feel next year.

"One of the ideas was to reboot [the show], and one of the ideas was to really just kind of boot it in the ass, and I think we did both things really well," Nayar said.
