The Vampire Diaries is about to get a whole lot less crowded.

One of the main characters of the hit CW series just teased their fate on their Instagram page.

*SPOILER ALERT*

In the season five finale viewers saw the implosion of the other side along with Bonnie and Damon inside it.

Fans were stunned and shocked, and hoped that this wasn't going to be the last time that they saw these two on the series.

Well it looks like fans are going to have to bid ado to at least one of these characters when the new season premieres this fall.

Ian Somerhalder posted about his departure from the series on his Instagram page earlier this weekend. Posting a picture of a grave with the name Damon inscribed on it and captioning the photo, "Rest in Peace Damon Salvatore. #Game Over :("

While outrage has broken out over this news, stars Paul Wesley and Nina Dobrev might be happy with this recent development. Earlier last month they both said that they wanted the show to start killing people off.

"You can't keep killing characters and bringing them back while using death as a catalyst for us caring about the episode," Paul said in an interview with BuzzFeed. "Death has to be the ultimate fear on our show, so when Stefan is trying to rescue Elena, we're genuinely terrified she might die. Otherwise, what's the point?"

Nina echoed his sentiments saying, "In the beginning, the shock value of killing Vicki in the first few episodes made us stand out. As soon as you start bringing people back, you kind of lose that. I mean the witches can always fix it, somehow. It's been six years, so I think it would be good to go down the list and cross them off."

Looks like the creators took their opinions in heart when they wrote the season finale.
