Could Emily Blunt Play Catwoman in Batman v Superman Dawn of Justice?
Rumors intensified earlier this week that actress Emily Blunt, who stars in Edge of Tomorrow with Tom Cruise, could have a role in Zack Snyder's Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice. But could this part be Catwoman?
Screen Rant and several other sites have speculated she could play the leather-clad character if rumors of Blunt's involvement are true. Anne Hathaway was the last person to play the character on screen in The Dark Knight Rises in 2012.
A site called El Multicine reported Blunt is up for an unidentified role (translated on Comic Book Movie):
"The actress Emily Blunt will land on billboards worldwide with her film Edge of Tomorrow, in what appears to be a great science fiction role. Now her name returns to the orbit of comic adaptations with her possible incorporation in Batman v Superman, directed by Zack Snyder, a film that has been shooting since last month."
It's important to note that the validity of this site and rumor are questionable, as this is not one of the typical rumor mill sites that tends to be on point with its reports. Still, the rumor (which is pure speculation until otherwise noted) is noteworthy because Blunt has been offered comic book movie roles in the past and turned them down.
Blunt was Marvel's first choice to play Black Widow in Iron Man 2, but she declined and the role went to Scarlett Johansson. Marvel then offered her the role of Agent Peggy Carter in Captain America: The First Avenger (Ironically, the rumor was that she passed on this part to possibly play Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises), a part that went to Hayley Atwell. She also was at the center of rumors to bring Ms. Marvel to the screen as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. For the record, Johansson is now one of the biggest and highest-paid actresses in Hollywood, and Atwell has earned a spinoff television series based on her character.
