WATCH: New 'The Leftovers' Trailer [VIDEO] HBO & Damon Lindelof's Rapture Drama Explores 'Sound Of Silence' In Second Extended Preview
The Leftovers is shaping up to be one of the biggest television events of the year. From creators Tom Perrotta and Damon Lindelof, this new HBO drama is dark and brooding, with plenty of intense action sequences as we can see from the newest trailer released this weekend ahead of the June 28 premiere.
Though you might understand what this new show is about, this new trailer gives us a bit more of character development, showing us how the leading actors are portraying the "leftovers" from an apparent rapture.
We've seen series leading man Justin Theroux in previous teasers, along with Liv Tyler and others, but this trailer shows off one actor most sci-fi fans have been watching out for in these previews: Christopher Eccleston.
You may remember him as Doctor Who or possibly just a villain in a number of films (28 Days Later, Thor 2: The Dark World), but in this new HBO series he plays a preacher that is not convinced the rapture has occurred. Besides the usual chaos from the previous trailers, Eccleston's character is the highlight of this week's teaser.

Here is the official synopsis for The Leftovers:
THE LEFTOVERS is based on Perrotta's bestselling novel of the same name. The drama series takes an original look at The Rapture...because it's not entirely clear The Rapture happened. THE LEFTOVERS follows Justin Theroux as Kevin Garvey, a father of two and the chief of police, who is trying to maintain some semblance of normalcy when the notion no longer applies.
