Darren Ferguson's Peterborough United Land Talented Former Turkish Premier League Prospect Erhun Oztumer
Sir Alex Ferguson was always active in the transfer market when he was Manchester United's manager, and it seems it's a trait he's passed down to his son, Darren Ferguson, who manages English club Peterborough United. The season has barely finished and the club have signed two now players, and added a third to their squad today. They signed the highly-rated Erhun Oztumer, who once was on the books of Charlton Athletic and then graced the Turkish Premier League.
The talented prospect had many options, but he chose to leave Dulwich Hamlet to sign for Posh. The 23-year-old, attacking player, signed a two-year contract. Posh will be hoping that he can quickly adapt to League One soccer, and if so they may have a great player on their hands, as he scored 33 goals in 49 games last season.
Darren explained the reasons behind this signing, saying "He is a lad that we have looked at. A lot of clubs have looked at him. He is an exciting player, he has great balance, great pace and a typical number 10. I have had a good chat with him and I am looking forward to working with him.I looked at his strengths and I know he is small, but he brings so much to the table. When we get him fit and up to speed, I think the fans will really take a shine to him. Everyone is fully aware of our policy and he fits the policy."
The player himself realizes it's a big step up, but one he will work hard to adapt to, he explained "I am very excited about this move. It is a big opportunity for me and one I am very much looking forward to. I am really happy. I have had experience of playing in Turkey and being away from family was tough, but I learned a lot and now I am back and raring to go. I have really enjoyed my time at Dulwich Hamlet. The manager here has spoken to me about the role he wants me to play and that excites me. I want to bring exciting football, I like to get on the ball and create and I want to score goals."
Can Posh's new prospect help to fire them to the second tier of English football, in the Championship? If so, Posh's new star will have moved from the non-league to one level below the EPL in a little over a year.
