R. Kelly's Youngest Daughter Jaya Comes Out As Transgender And Changes Name To Jay
R. Kelly's youngest child, Jaya, has just come out as transgender. The 13-year-old daughter now son, of the rapper has transitioned from female to male, and now goes by the name of Jay.
The teenager publicly came out on his Instagram page and explains in his Ask.fm profile that he has identified as a male since about the age of "6 or 7."
Jay's mother, Drea is a reality TV star on the series Hollywood Exes, and he says that his mom has been nothing but supportive of his identity.
"[My mom] was like, 'Baby, you know I love you if you were bi, gay, [lesbian], you name it and I would still love you so much," he wrote on Ask.fm page.
He goes on to reveal that while R. Kelly was unaware of the transformation, that other members in his family were nothing but loving during his coming out stage.
"[My mom] was very proud of me, I was like, 'Thank you mum for accepting the fact that I'm a transgender. And same with my sister, she told me that she was proud of me, and respects me by calling me handsome and calling me her little brother now, and I love her for that, so you know it was great for me."
On the social media site, Jay reveals that while he still has female anatomy, and wears a binder on his chest, he does hope to undergo surgery and get testosterone shots so that he can complete the transition.
"I believe I am a boy and want surgery, and the medication to help me [become] who I was supposed to be."
We are so proud of Jay. The fact that he is so young and so comfortable in his own skin is truly inspiring.
