Marvel Comics Launches ‘Edge Of Spider-Verse!’ Check Out What David Hine Has In Store For ‘Spider-Man Noir’ & Mysterio!
Marvel Comics is about to step into the Edge of Spider-Verse. Writers David Hine, Fabrice Sapolsky, and artist Richard Isanove will bring back Spider-Man Noir from the shadows for another action-packed adventure.
As reported here, Spider-Man will meet 37 incarnations of himself, including Spider-Man Noir, in the upcoming epic event, Spider-Verse. Also mentioned here, the prelude miniseries, Edge of Spider-Verse, spotlights a different hero for each issue, including Gwen Stacy as Spider-Woman.
Edge of Spider-Verse #1 will feature the return of the dauntless Spider-Man Noir. In this noir version, the Spidey mythology flashes back to the 1930s, during the Great Depression. Peter Parker is still the superhuman wall-crawler, but he also wears a trench coat, a black mask, and carries a gun. Though this isn't the special effects wizard that fans have already met, the animosity between Mysterio and the web-spinner is still there.
In an interview with Marvel, Hine explains the '30s time period and how the flashback setting relates to the plot, "This time round, we've jumped ahead in time to 1939 and the New York World's Fair. The Fair wasn't just about science and technology. The most popular part was the amusement area, with displays of Freaks Of Nature, a Jungle Land with 600 monkeys and Salvador Dali's Dream of Venus featuring topless women doing vaguely surreal things."
Hine describes his re-imagination of the Spidey super villain, "In this setting, Mysterio doesn't appear too out of place with his amazing displays of magic and escapology. But he's after a lot more than just the adulation of the crowd." The Spider-Man Noir writer continues, "He's also after Spider-Man's blood-literally. And if he doesn't get it, someone very close to Peter Parker is going to die a very nasty death."
Edge of Spider-Verse #1 hits stores sometime in September. You don't want to miss Spider-Man Noir duke it out with Mysterio at the World's Fair.
