The Walking Dead Producer David Alpert Says Show Planned Through Season 12

The Walking Dead recently wrapped up Season 4 and Season 5 will debut in the fall. The show is one of the most popular on television and pulls in monster ratings week after week, but producer David Alpert recently commented that the crew has the show planned through...Season 12?!

Alpert was part of a panel discussion at a Producers Guild event, and someone asked him about working with "pre-existing" material for the series. Here's Alpert's response (via Screen Rant):

"I happen to love working from source material, specifically because we have a pretty good idea of what Season 10 is gonna be. We know where Season 11 and 12...we have benchmarks and milestones for those seasons if we're lucky enough to get there."

We'll safely assume the source material in question is The Walking Dead comic books, which has more than 125 issues published thus far. The show has stayed true to the books at some points but also diverted wildly from them at other points.

[WARNING: THE WALKING DEAD SHOW AND BOOK SPOILERS AHEAD]

Rick and his companions have made Alexandria their home base since Issue #69, so it seems likely that the show would move there at some point. But then consider that Rick and Andrea's romance has been a major part of their time at Alexandria, and she's not even alive in the show anymore.

So it's difficult to say what exactly those benchmarks and milestones would be, but it's definitely intriguing that those behind the show have a plan for the next seven seasons or so.
