At the Special Edition: NYC, Marvel Comics spoke about their highly anticipated superhero title that fans have been demanding. Writer Peter David was on hand at the Marvel panel to discuss the unexpected reboot of Spider-Man 2099.

Twenty years ago, Peter David was the hot writer in the comic book industry, with X-Factor and Spider-Man 2099. Two decades later, David is back again with same titles but the characters have changed dramatically. The mutant superhero team is now being funded by a corporation, instead of being run by the government. Though the 2099 titles were all cancelled due to lack of sales, Miguel O' Hara made a reappearance in the current Superior Spider-Man and re-ignited Marvel's decision to give him a second chance.

The Spider-Man 2099 writer was very much surprised fans wanted him back on the failed series, "I've always loved the character of Miguel. He's never been far from my thoughts. I loved writing for him in the videogame, Edge of Time. I would love to say I've had plots running for ages, but I haven't. I was very surprised Dan [Slott} brought him back for Sensational...Superior Spider-Man. Some damn adjective! What Dan did with him was perfectly fine."

David is currently at work on the first four issues and teases, "I do not eliminate the possibility that he will be returning to 2099, but I am liking him in the modern day, because it gives him a great 'fish out of water' perspective."

Spider-Man 2099 #1 is expected to hit stores on July 9. The first issue is the perfect for newcomers who may not remember the original 2099 title and for the nostalgic fans who have missed him so.
