Casey Kasem Passes Away On Father's Day - Beloved Radio Personality And 'Scooby-Doo' Actor Dies at 82

"Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars." 

That was how radio personality Casey Kasem ended every one of this radio shows. Sad Father's Day news for all radio listeners, Kasem has just passed ago at the age of 82 at St. Anthony's Hospital in Gig Harbor, Washington.

The radio host, who was born Kemal Amin Kasem started his career in 1952, before launching his "American Top 40" countdown in 1970. His reign on the show lasted from 1970- 1988 before launching a revival in 1998 which he was part of for six years before handing it over to Ryan Seacrest, who still hosts it today.

Seacrest opened up about the radio personalities death saying, "It's a sad day for the broadcasting community and for radio listeners around the world."

"When I was a kid, I would listen to Casey Kasem AT40 show ever weekend, and dream about someday becoming a radio DJ. So when decades later I took over his AT40 countdown show, it was a surreal moment," Ryan adds. "Casey had a distinctive friendly on-air voice, and he was just as affable and nice if you had the privilege to be in his company. He'll be greatly missed by all of us."

Casey also had dabbled in the TV world, including voicing Shaggy on Scooby-Doo and doing voiceover work for commercials.

Kasem's health started deteriorating in 2013 when his daughter Kerri revealed that he as suffering from a form of dementia, called Lewy body dementia, a degenerative disease that has symptoms similar to that of Parkinson's.

He was surrounded by his children, Kerri, Mike, and Julie at the time of passing, notably absent was his wife Jean.

No cause of death has been released at this time.
