X-Men: First Class took place in the 1960s during the Cuban Missile Crisis, while a large portion of X-Men: Days of Future Past occurred in 1973.
Screenwriter Simon Kinberg has now revealed that the next film in the franchise, X-Men: Apocalypse, will take place in 1983. Kinberg revealed the news on The Q&A with Jeff Goldsmith podcast, which ran nearly two hours. For those interested in listening, he drops the information around the 1:12:00 mark.
James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult and Evan Peters are all expected to return for the sequel. Younger versions of Jean grey, Cyclops and Storm will also appear. It's also possible Channing Tatum could show up as Gambit, but this has not been confirmed yet.
Tatum also recently spoke to Screen Rant, which asked him about director Bryan Singer's desire to put Gambit into Apocalypse.
"I would do anything to be in those movies," Tatum said. "I mean, I love the Marvel world and what they've created as a real brand and they've sort of changed the face of the industry. I would be in anything they put up, especially Gambit."
