The CW Network has been releasing short featurettes about their upcoming superhero series, The Flash. Now it's time for actor Jesse L. Martin to speak to the camera and tease audiences what to expect from his character, Detective Joe West.

From what we already from the extended trailer, Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) has been searching clues for is mother's murder. There are hints that the Reverse Flash murdered the matriarch when the speedster was just a little boy. After the death of his wife, Henry Allen (John Wesley Shipp) may have lost a personal connection with his son.

The Law & Order actor describes his father figure role for the abandoned orphan, "I ended up raising Barry. Whatever happens to his parents, I take over the parenting duties. I raise him and Iris together."

As reported here, Candice Patton reveals how close Barry and Iris West became during their childhood. Though Barry has feelings for Iris, she sees him as a brotherly figure. But in the comics, the lovebirds are destined to end up together, no matter what obstacles life has for them.

The Rent singer reveals his character is noticing an attraction between Barry and Iris, "I raise them as brother and sister. Now that they're older, I start to notice things that are a little bit non-brotherly/sisterly if you know what I mean."

In the comics, the DC Comics superhero is already in his prime, in his thirties. The TV series takes a look at how the Flash is learning how to use his super-speed powers.

Martin teases audiences what's to come in the Arrow spinoff, "Our story is about the birth of the superhero, particularly the pilot. I notice some things in Barry that are quite extraordinary. So it makes for an interesting life."
