Ariana Grande To Be Featured On MTV Revival Of TRL- Network Bringing Back Total Request Live For One Day With 'Problem' Singer Set To Perform
Ever wanted to relive your childhood? Well MTV is hoping you do.
The music network is reviving one of its staple shows, Total Request Live. The Viacom-owned station just revealed that they are bringing TRL back to the airwaves, but fans shouldn't rejoice just yet because there is a catch. The hit series will only be back for one day, and it will be going by a different name.
The episode, which is clearly titled, Total Ariana Live, will be a half-hour long special set to air on July 2, and it will be all about, you guessed it, Ariana Grande. The show will return to the Time Square MTV studios and will be hosted by MTV News anchor Sway Calloway.
The original series, which was hosted by a slew of VJ's including Carson Daly and Damien Fahey, ran from 1998-2008. It aired a total of 2,247 episodes and counted down the top-ten videos on a daily basis.
So why is the new special called Total Ariana Live? Well because she will be the musical guest of course. The singer will be taking over the show to perform her new single "Break Free," as well as a rendition of her hit song "Problem." MTV promises there will be games to test Grande's hip-hop knowledge as well as a surprise announcement from the singer.
"It's a huge honor to be able to bring back a show like TRL, I used to love watching it growing up," the songstress revealed in a statement. "Can't wait to celebrate with my loves in Times Square. Might have some surprises too."
"Only one artist has the power to turn the lights back on at 1515 Broadway in the iconic TRL studios, and that's Ariana Grande," Republic Records executive Charlie Walk stated. "The transformation to Total Ariana Live represents her one-of-a-kind star power combined with MTV's immense multimedia platform, setting the stage for the ultimate global partnership,"
