USA Power Through Despite Defeat To Germany: Can They Beat Belgium?
When USA were grouped with the likes of Ghana, Portugal and Germany, not many expected their World Cup campaign to last longer. However, USA have lasted longer than famous soccer nations in Spain, England and Italy, making it through to the Round of 16. Despite a 1-0 defeat against Germany, both teams were locked in a joint celebration, knowing they'd both progress from the group, leaving Ghana and Portugal to wipe their tears. USA will now face the exciting, young Belgium, but can they win and book their place in the World Cup quarter-finals?
Germany and the US knew a draw would be enough to see both teams progress, but their nerves made it apparent that neither team could afford to, or settle for a just a draw. The US were evidently scared that if they played defensively, and Germany won the game at the end. However, both teams went head-to-head going for the win, but the US couldn't find enough to beat one of the best teams in the world. Despite this, there was plenty of positives for them to take in to their next match.
Before the 2014 World Cup, many people predicted Belgium to be a major force in Brazil. So far that's been correct. USA will have to be their best to keep themselves in the game, however, their group games have certainly prepared them for this tough encounter. USA will see many MLS stars take on Belgium's abundance of English Premier League talents, but which will prevail?
It's going to be a game of the ages, and with everything on the line, and both teams shaky defensively, we can expect a goalscoring feast.
