Brazil Vs. Chile 2014 FIFA World Cup Round of Last 16 Match Recap: Knockout Stage Opening Game Ends With Penalty Shoot-Out - Chile Eliminated, Brazil Barely Advances To Quarter-Finals

The opening match of the 2014 World Cup's knockout stage was certainly as exciting as they come. This was a match with the most amount of fouls committed, with the stakes so high for each side. Neither Brazil nor Chile side could assure a victory in the 90 minutes of regular play with some stoppage time added on, so Brazil and Chile went into 30 minutes of overtime - and then penalty kicks.

Neymar looked like he deserved all of the hype that has been building around him leading up to the World Cup, but that didn't last the whole match thanks to an impressive defensive game from Chile. His teammate Hulk, after an early fumble, came out as the man of the match with plenty of supportive play and aggressive offensives.

With one goal each coming out of regular game time, Chile and Brazil were desperate in overtime. Though the teams had different ideas of how to play. Brazil wanted a goal while Chile wanted to go to a shoot-out.

The extra time played out like a stressful staring match - each team trying to get the other to blink. Tension kept mounting as we eventually went into the first penalty kick shoot-out of the tournament.

This was one of the most dramatic shoot-outs we've ever seen. In conclusion, Chile heads home today. Brazil barely advanced though.

Chile succeeded throughout the extended match, but the penalty kicks (which the team hoped to get) led to their demise. Great performances from both keepers, Julio Cesar and Claudio Bravo, Chile missed too many goals. It's unfortunately that simple.

We believe the Chileans go home with heads held up so high for making Brazil earn this win.
