The episodes will film in early 2015, which will hopefully produce a one-off Christmas special for the winter of that year, followed by a three-episode fourth season of the highly anticipated show.
"A special, plus a new series of three episodes - it's a record-breaking run!" the series co-creator Steven Moffat said in a new statement. "Of course, it's far too early to say what's coming, but we're reasonably confident that the very next thing to happen to Sherlock and John is the very last thing you'd expect."
