Happy 4th of July, Mstars fans! Celebrate Independence Day with these fun facts and trivia about the good ol' USA.
- Also consider today "National Hot-Dog Day." Americans consume about 155 million of these meaty treasures during the holiday alone!
- Declaration of Independence: The average Signer of the Declaration was 45-years-old. Thomas Lynch, Jr of South Carolina was the youngest at 27. Our beloved Benjamin Franklin from Pennsylvania was the oldest at 70. Thomas Jefferson - leader of the Declaration - was just 33.
- The original "National Anthem" was first used in an old English drinking song, "To Anacreon in Heaven."
- Cook up the grill! Approximately one-sixth of all beef production comes from Texas. IF not, your hamburger or hot-dog probably originated in Nebraska or Kansas.
- Philly's legendary Liberty Bell is tapped (NOT rung, they don't want it damaged!) thirteen times every 4th of July, in honor of the original thirteen colonies.
- Congress made Independence Day an official unpaid holiday in 1870. Finally in 1938, it was changed to a paid federal holiday.
- Apparently, China can celebrate, too. Approximately $2.8 million (or 87.5%)of imported U.S. flags are from China. 11. Meanwhile, the country is also the lead importer on fireworks - about 97% (or $190.7 million) to be exact.
- The first-ever July 4th parade was celebrated in Bristol, Rhode Island (1785).
- Oddly enough, both US Presidents Thomas Jefferson and John Adams died on the 50th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. President James Monroe passed away on the same date in 1831. Meanwhile future President Calvin Coolidge was born on July 4, 1872.
- Back in 1776, the US was home to about only 2.5 million. Today, there's over 314 million citizens.
