The Australian-born, English entertainer Rolf Harris has been found guilty on 12 counts of indecent assault on girls and young women, and sentenced to five years and nine months in prison.  The BBC reports that it is likely Harris, 84, will serve half of his sentence in prison.

According to the Mirror, the Attorney General referred to Harris' jail term as "unduly lenient."  Harris committed his string of attacks over a period of almost 20 years, and was found guilty on every charge against him.  Harris reportedly showed no emotion when the judge read his sentence.

The Mirror reported:

Harris was told he had caused his victims severe psychological harm and had shown no remorse for his crimes.

On behalf of Harris' youngest victim who was abused at the age of 8, a representative thanked police for their diligent work and said, "(She) had only eight years of her life without this incident going round in her head and that was her first eight years".

The representative for Harris' youngest victim then asked for the media to respect the victims' privacy.  She said, "After the media circus had rolled onto another town, it will still be with her as it will with the other girls."

The Mirror reported:

The judge told him that his reputation lies in ruins following his convictions but he has no one to blame but himself.
