Conan O’Brien Dominates China: Talk Show Host Takes Over Online Media, Joins ‘Saturday Night Live’ & Ellen Degeneres on Sohu Video

If you watch Conan O'Brien's TBS series CONAN then you're well aware of his famed segment "Why China Is Kicking Our A$$" And as true as that may be, it appears it's O'Brien who is doing the a$$ kicking ... because he's apparently dominating the online video market over in China.

The late night talk show host's program debuted on the online video site Sohu Video in China less than two weeks ago and has already garnered more than 3 million hits. The site also licenses other American shows like Saturday Night Live and NBC's Ellen Degeneres' talk show Ellen.

Sohu Video is reportedly a unit of Chinese online media listed on the NASDAQ under Sohu.com Inc.

Unlike television, online media in China is not heavily regulated. Because of this, there is much more freedom in terms of what they can and cannot show. The online media market finds itself having more opportunities to "air" both dramas and comedies from other countries, including the United States, that may be seen as inappropriate for Chinese television.

Conan's takeover of China comes just at the tail end of his World Cup coverage, which showed the comedian's puppet reporter, Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, meandering the streets and bars of New York City poking fun at the fans of various soccer teams ... and perhaps reporting a little bit on the games.

If we listen closely we think we can hear China laughing ... rightfully so, of course.
