Hot on his Emmy nomination for Sherlock, actor Benedict Cumberbatch announced he will make his first appearance at the San Diego Comic-Con to promote the Dreamworks animated feature The Penguins of Madagascar.

Cumberbatch is also rumored to be sticking around in support of Warner Bros.' The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies and Peter Jackson, who is scheduled to present the final installment of his trilogy. (In the final chapter of Jackson's Hobbit franchise, 37-year-old Cumberbatch plays The Necromancer.)

The 90-minute Dreamworks panel will take place in the convention center's Hall H on July 24, starting at 11:30 a.m. In addition to Cumberbatch (who plays Agent Classified in Penguins), the panel will feature actors John Malkovich, Tom McGrath and directors Simon J. Smith and Eric Darnell. Penguins will be released on November 26.

While Sherlock has been promoted at past Comic-Cons neither Cumberbatch nor co-star Martin Freeman were ever able to meet with fans, but in the wake of todays Emmy nods (Freeman received one for Lester Nygaard in Fargo), we hope that will change in the future.

The Comic-Con is usually a star studded affair and this year will be no different. Scheduled appearances also include Jack Black for Goosebumps, Jeff Bridges for The Giver and Michael Douglas (his first time at Comic-Con also) for Ant-Man.
