'True Detective' Season 2 Casting Rumors: Collin Farrell And Taylor Kitsch Rumored For Leads In Nic Pizzolatto's New Episodes; Series Will Have 4 Major Characters

Basically hours after HBO and True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto revealed that season two would have four lead characters, we already have two big names rumored to fill out half of the bill. According to numerous reports, Collin Farrell and Taylor Kitsch are in talks to star in the upcoming season of the show, which is set in California this time around.

This news comes from The Wrap, which also quotes an HBO representative as saying, "there is no news to confirm on the casting."

Deadline reports:

I can tell you that Colin Farrell is deep in negotiations to play one of what is expected to be three main roles in Season 2. HBO has been mum about cast so far, as rumors have swirled that Jessica Chastain and some others will be one of the other leads. HBO would not confirm any of the potential castings, but I am confident that Farrell will be in the cast.

Though Farrell is said to be in talks with the network, Kitsch is apparently a stead behind and is simply "in mind" for a younger leading role.

We would be completely happy with these casting choices, by the way.

Meanwhile, MStars News recently reported on the earlier news about HBO confirming the four leads. HBO programming president Michael Lombardo during the Television Critics Association press tour in Los Angeles this week revealed a bit more about the four leads.

"I think the truth of the matter is a number of people - talented, well-known actors - look for great writing," he explained, according to Mashable. "I think the people we will cast will be well-known names, but that wasn't the ambition."

"I think we decided early on to free ourselves of the idea of a 'star' and lean into great acting," he said, adding that casting announcements could come "in the next week."
