Steven Gerrard Retires - Who Should Replace Liverpool Midfielder As England's Captain After International Football Retirement?

With England's star Captain Steven Gerrard retiring from his International football duties after 14 years of service, who will and/or could possibly take his leadership role on the team? All eyes are on Wayne Rooney, Joe Hart, Gary Cahill, Jack Wilshere and other English footballers now that Liverpool's star player has quit.

29-year-old Manchester United star Wayne Rooney is recognized around the world as arguably one of the best players from England. Is that enough, though, to warrant the Captain's spot? He's never captained his Man. U. football club, besides some fill-in moments, so we know that he's never had such a responsibility. Will he defy the odds and become the new captain of England?

England goalkeeper Joe Hart has taken on leadership role just from his role on the team. As a keeper, not even the team captain should second-guess the man in front of the net. But is this reason enough to give Hart the armband?

Gary Cahill doesn't have much international experience, falling at around 27 caps, but the 28-year-old has the same poise and mentality as Gerrard. It would be hard not to consider the Chelsea FC player for this role, but is he the right choice?

If Roy Hodgson wants to stun the world, he'll look to 22-year-old English midfielder Jack Wilshere who has a bright future ahead of him. But will the older players, namely those mentioned above, listen to such a young footballer when it comes down to it?

Take our poll below and let us know who you think should replace Gerrard:
