'Pirates of the Caribbean 5' Release Date Announced: July 7, 2017 - Johnny Depp Returns As Captain Jack Sparrow In 'Dead Men Tell No Lies'
Johnny Depp is returning to Jerry Bruckheimer's Pirates of the Caribbean movie franchise with the fifth installment, which we just learned this week will hit theaters on July 7, 2017. So far only the release date has been confirmed, but rumors claim that this new chapter could have a pretty great title: Dead Men Tell No Lies. Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg are set to direct this new film.
Pirates of the Caribbean 5 was original set to hit theaters in the summer of 2015, but that plan was scrapped due to reworking the script. Now we know that the script is well on its way to completion in time for the 2017 release.
As of now, Pirates 5 has the July 7 to July 9, 2017, weekend all to itself, but will battle Despicable Me 3 (June 30) and Fantastic Four 2 (July 14) in the box office.
Captain Jack Sparrow's last adventure, On Stranger Tides, grossed around $1 billion since its release in 2011, and the franchise gained about $3.7 billion in ticket sales all together. This fifth movie, which will end up in theaters six years after its predecessor, is expected to be another blockbuster hit for Disney.
Where do you think this new movie will take Jack and his crew? So far we've been to The World's End and Stanger Tides, so what Lies ahead of us? Sorry for the pun ... Let us know what you're expecting from the next Pirates of the Caribbean movie in the comments section below!
