Mick Jagger, Chadwick Boseman Talk 'Godfather Of Soul' James Brown: Premiere 'Get On Up' Biopic (VIDEO)

This week, Rolling Stone Mick Jagger and actor Chadwick Boseman bring "Godfather Of Soul" James Brown to the big screen with their biopic Get On Up.

The movie, directed by The Help's Tate Taylor and co-produced by Jagger and Brian Glazer, took 12 years to get made.

Jagger not only serves as producer on Get On Up, but he's somewhat of a consultant on the film, since he and the Stones have a personal history with the legendary soul singer - both acts appeared on the bill for the T.A.M.I (Teen Age Music International) Show at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium in 1964.

As the story goes, Brown was upset that the still wet behind the ears Stones received top billing and when it was his turn to perform, proceeded to the blow them off the stage.

In Billboard this week, Jagger reminisces about the moment: "James was very miffed about not being the top of the bill. In real life, they asked me to go and chill him out because I'd already met him and already talked to him. They thought I'd be a good person because they didn't want to do the dirty work. So, they asked me to try and go chill him out, which I did to a certain extent. But, of course, he wanted to show the real thing that we show in the film -- he wanted to go out there and kill, you know. And that probably made for a better performance than normal. He talked about that a lot afterwards and it meant a lot to him. And I think it was probably the first time that his entire show had been put down on film like that. That's important for you as an artist."

Jagger said despite the conflict, Brown was always kind to the younger musician: "He was always so very nice to me, polite to me, respectful. Even when I was very young, he didn't treat me like I was a whippersnapper. He always was encouraging to me. I watched him a lot, and I think he inspired me and I learned a lot from him."
